Between Waste and Added Value
The Pro Ocean organization – part of the non-profit association Life e.V. – has been committed to marine conservation in Germany and the Philippines since 2021. With its new project, it aims to playfully educate consumers about the differences between “good” and “bad” plastic, thereby promoting conscious consumer decisions.
The core of the project is an interactive traveling exhibition with transparent boxes displaying and evaluating various plastic products – from PET bottles to Tetra Paks. QR codes lead to an accompanying web app with quizzes, games, and interactive learning content. The goal is to create understanding of recyclability, highlight alternatives, and thus also exert pressure on industry and politics.
The exhibition started in Ludwigshafen in the summer of 2025, with various other cities to follow until the end of 2026. In addition to the general public, schools, universities, and families are the initiative’s target audience. Through this combination of direct engagement, educational work, and digital formats, a systemic change in the handling of plastic is to be initiated in the long term.
